welcome to the Create Programme

Hello, friends!

As part of an ongoing endeavour to share and collaborate with the Second Life communities, Orange launches the Create Programme, an initiative that aims at encouraging creative expression on Orange Island.The idea is quite simple: Orange offers to support artistic and/or innovative projects by granting land and tools to residents who show promising material in order to help them achieve their project.

We have selected three spectacular projects for this first batch of the Create Programme:

The Particle House

Cezary Fish created a complex housing object that attempts to answer the question: “Should Second Life housing be solid?”
Through his amazing build, Cezary is trying to break many of the real life limitations for housing construction that have been carried into the Second Life environment. He asks, “Is it possible to build houses out of particles? Should one’s home still be made of bricks in the Metaverse?” Cezary has, in essence created the particle house as an idea of a house. Could we say that living in a house without borders is akin to living in this new virtual world, also without borders?

The Primal Forest

Soror Nishi’s project features some truly unique flora. Anyone interested in the diversity of evolution from a botanical viewpoint will love this virtual Garden of Eden. It is said plants like music as well… Do you?

Sugar, Spice, Snails and Tails: The Human Element

An immersive, metaphorical journey highlighting the opposing forces of life. See how these same forces can forge us into strong, balanced, powerful, harmonious beings. Visitors will have to navigate their way through a series of maze-like tubes, each leading to different environments that represent the opposing forces of life. Each room has a special theme, a different feeling, and a particular emotion present within the human experience. Will you make it to the final room ? There’s only way to know…

Create Programme FAQ

How to apply?
If you have an idea or a project and you would like to apply to the Create Programme, you need to follow these simple steps:

* Join the Orange community (SL group “Orange Island”): you can ask any Orange Team member for membership, or click one of the “get involved” panels on the island.
* Download the application form and use it to send a description of your project to create@orange-island.com. Keep in mind that your project must comply with our guidelines, and that it will be posted on www.orange-island.com for everyone to see.
* Once the deadline for submission is over, the Create Programme jury, composed of the Orange Team staff, will review the submitted projects and select one (or more) based on space availability and staff’s discretion.
* If you are selected, you will be required to enter into a contract with us under which we will agree to provide use of the land we select for you on Orange Island and you will agree to build and maintain your project in accordance with the terms of the contract. Make sure you have read the contract of the Create Programme.
* The final results will be posted on the blog.

How many parcels are there for the taking? What size are they?
For the first batch, there will be two projects (maybe more) chosen among those submitted, then if the initiative proves successful, we will open additional spaces and let you know before the second vote how many will be available. The parcels’ size is theoretically 2000 sq.m. However, this can be slightly adjusted to match the need of the selected projects.

What about intellectual property?
As specified in the contract of the Create Programme, residents who chose to participate “will retain any and all applicable copyright and other intellectual property rights with respect to any Content the Resident creates…” You will therefore remain the owner of whatever you make.
