Innovation Week on Orange Island: Day 1

The Orange Island Team is happy to welcome you to Innovation Week – because virtual life improvement never stops. For a global schedule of the week, please check this page.

As Innovation Week starts today, we’ll take a look at the innovations that shaped the world of Second Life, then we’ll welcome the wonderful folks at Metanomics for their weekly show… this time about innovation, the future of Second Life and the vision of its creator, Philip Rosedale.

We’ll also encourage our visitors and audience to participate in a joint effort to separate the hype from the real, during a session about “sustainable innovation”.

Monday 29th of September

11AM SLT – Introduction: Back to the Future
Join us as long-time resident and visionnaire Gwyneth Llewelyn digs into the past to review the (often resident-created) innovations that shaped the world of Second Life.

Gwyne
th Llewelyn

Between 1993 and 2007 Gwyneth launched several start-ups in various areas, many (but not all) related to Internet business.
Her current focus is her company Beta Technologies, a full-service metaverse development company, for which she manages post-sales, accounting, public relations, and marketing.  She also blogs frequently here.

12PM SLT – Metanomics video show
Interview with Philip Rosedale: from the specific future of Second Life to the widespread promise of virtual worlds.
Followed by a discussion including Benjamin Duranske, Wagner James Au, Tish Shute (Tara5 Oh in SL), Nic Mitham, Christian Renaud, Bettina Tizzy and Dusan Writer about the implications of Rosedale’s vision.

Metanomics

Metanomics is a group of people who are interested in studying economics and policy in the “metaverse” of online virtual worlds and communicating these innovative concepts. Professor Bloomfield unveiled this innovative talk show concept in September of 2007.

The group focuses on economic issues in virtual worlds like Second Life or There. “On the one hand, we examine how residents of these online places establish, manage and regulate their enterprises. On the other, we explore how real-world businesses and nonprofit organizations interact with virtual worlds.”

Live Metanomics events take place every Monday between noon and 1.00pm SLT. They are broadcast live on slcn.tv and post video / audio transcripts and chat discussion archives on the Metanomics website.

1PM SLT – Hype or Real?
Let’s determine which improvement of Second Life could be decisive. The event will involve the audience using a “Human Barometer”. Moderated by Malburns Writer.
