Orange Island presents Dann Numbers Live!

This friday 22nd of August 12PM SLT, join us on Music Area to listen to Dann Russo, aka Dann Numbers in SL. He plays acoustic Rock…with a little bit of country-fried gospel soul. People say “Dann Rocks” and really mean it.

Dann Numbers

Who are you ?
I’m Dann. Dann Russo in RL, Dann Numbers in SL – I’m originally from New York City but now I live in Boston, where I teach languages to pay the mortgage, but I still want to be a rock star when I grow up :-)

When do you start playing Rl?
I started playing in 7th or 8th grade (20 years ago!) and just started playing whatever was on the radio. Of course, living in NY, it was Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Guns and Roses and the beginning of Hip Hop…so I was very happy with the music of the time…and then when I got to High School it was Nirvana and Pearl Jam (Pearl Jam was (and IS) so much better than Nirvana ever was) and between Pearl Jam and the Black Crowes, thats what inspired me to write songs…and then when I got to College, it was Dave Matthews and Counting Crows that inspired me to write better songs. And I hope that one day I write at least one song that moves people as much as that music moved me.

When do you start playing on Sl?
My daughter was born in August, 2006 and I hadn’t been playing out in RL late nights and whatever for obvious reasons but then I heard about SL through the Boston Phoenix and started playing in late October, 2006 so I’m about to play my 400th show in SL on July 7th.

What do you mostly play? Why?
I play guitar. I sing. I love to sing – and I think I have really been able to get better at it. I guess in a perfect world I would play bass in a band, but right now its just me…and I play my own songs, and maybe a few covers, cause I dont want to be known as just a guy who can play what’s on the radio…I want to someday BE on the radio.

What do you like the most in the music you play? What Music brings to you?
I like the energy and at a same it’s a release – there is no greater stress relief than hitting a high note well or totally rocking out a tough riff.

What do you hope to give to audience while playing?
something to dance to, something to sing along to, something that resonates with something that has happened in their life, a little bit of what some people call prayer (I’m not sure I do), and a lot of love

Where is your music available to listen?
You can guess mor info on myHome site, MySpace, Sonicbidsas well as my SL and RL schedule on Facebook

What has Sl made possible for your artisitic expression?
oh man – I play almost every day, I have written songs, I have made my RL shows SO much better thanks to the performances and the reactions I get in SL.

What initiative would you like to see in SL that hasn’t been done yet concerning Music or classical music?
Some kind of connection with iTunes or a record company or something to bring so many talented original musicians to the notice of “big wigs” who can and should make SL musicians (and there are WAY too many to mention) famouser in RL.

Are they any RL artists you admire or who ve had an influence on your work? Same with SL?
Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, The Black Crowes, U2, an Irish band called the Saw Doctors, Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, Jason Mraz, I mean anything I have ever listened to has influenced me in some way or another.
