The Orange Island project comes to an end

Parting with friends is never easy, no matter where and how you met them. The Orange Island project has reached its final stage: on the 29th of September 2009, we’ll be holding our final event, and move to new horizons, after two years of events in and around virtual worlds.

Together we did more

When Orange entered Second Life in October 2007, most RL brands and companies were leaving the platform. We set out to find out more, learning by doing, inspired and guided by the many talented, creative, innovative folks we met in and around SL. We thought we’d help them connect, share and collaborate, in a place that could also be their own. And so, Orange Island was born.

Orange Island was an experimental project aimed at getting a better understanding of virtual worlds. We wanted to learn about users and their cultures, content creation and collaboration, and the challenges of immersive, real-time social environments. Two years later, it’s safe to say that together we really did more. You and us played, explored, talked and created, we shared our passions and made many meaningful encounters. Because, as you know so well, there is no such thing as virtual memories – only real experiences.

We hope you too are proud of what we achieved together. Thank you for creating Orange Island with us.

A final event to share our experience of virtual worlds

We’ll be holding our closing event on Tuesday 29th September, to share our (and your) findings about virtual worlds… and beyond. We invite you to join us at 11 am SLT on Orange Island’s Lower Plaza Auditorium for a casual, open meeting with the team behind Orange Island and some insightful guests. We hope to see you there!

To follow up on the event, we’ll also release a document that sums up some of our findings, which we’ll share with you on this website the first week of October. Stay tuned!

  11. Grace McDunnough

Thank you for all that you did – for your passion, your energy, your vision, your friendship and for most of all your spirit.

You made SL a better place and we will miss you sincerely.

  12. Yesterday Demain

Again, thanks for the heartwarming reactions.

Just a quick comment: Orange Island is closing, but most of the people involved in the project won’t be leaving Second Life, as they were residents before getting involved with Orange Island.

We may not all continue to be as active on the grid as we were these two years, but we’ll certainly keep in touch with the wonderful folks we met.

  13. Pierluigi Casolari

Orange Island has been more than a partner for Koinup. We started to share a common vision about 2 years ago. We built a solid, friendly and entushiast partnership. Photo Sessions, one of the main Koinup – Orange Island brand initiative has been welcomed as one of the most important initiatives in the area of Second Life Art and Photography.

I found in Yesterday, Nick, Mat, Natty some good friends. Particolarly, Natty has been really a buddy and an inspitation for me and for all the Koinup community. I look forward to hear again about you guys! Maybe in other worlds, or maybe in other adventures.

It has been a real pleasure to meet you and have the chance of team up with you.

    Goodbye
    Pierluigi
