Metaverse Explorers: S.I.C.

This Tuesday, on the occasion of Machinima Week, Metaverse Explorers take you to the S.I.C. sim, where the edgy Japanese machinima series ” Sic” is being shot.

This is an earlybird event, as we will be meeting with sim creator mk Curtiz, who is based in Japan.

09.30 am SLT: Screening of English subtitled S.I.C. episode on Orange Island.
09.45am SLT: Visit of the S.I.C. sim.
10.45am: Q&A with sim creator mk Curtiz

A short interview with mk Curtiz

Who is Mk Curtiz?
The S.I.C. project is my main activity; I work on improving the sim design and produce machinima. I live in Japan. I was reborn in SL about a year ago.

What is your professional background?
I am a graphic designer. I do web design etc. I don’t have a movie background and I have never created movies or manga IRL.

Why did you create this machinima series? Do you make money with S.I.C.?
I love science fiction and was desperately wanting to create a story, then I discovered Second Life. All the money I make comes from the products I sell in-world.
mk Curtiz designs the objects he needs for the episodes. You can find a shop on the main street of S.I.C.

Can you tell us the story of “AD2054 Region S.I.C.”?
It takes place in a world where human beings have abandoned their polluted natural land and live on an artificial, man-made land.
This artificial land is ruled by the conglomerate company S.I.C. This story is about a woman living her life desperately, in the nearby future, a world where there’s not much hope. This idea is greatly influenced by the animations and movies that I have seen in the past. I bought and created this sim since I felt that rented land and regular parcels felt too small for what I wanted to express.

Thanks to Rheya Vella from Accuras Language Academy for the translation.
Thanks to Bettina Tizzy from Not Possible In Real Life for making us discover S.I.C.
